Chart Return for Jurrane
Submitted 31-Dec-07 (3102 views)

Two charts from me this month: the regular round-up of what's been doing it for me in the last 30 days, and then a Top 20 Of 2007 chart. See you in 2008! Smile

January Trance Chart

(1.) Trancience: ‘Trial By Fire’ (Sly One vs Jurrane remix) – Future State
Due out any time now, our latest remix is released on new UK label Future State Records and we’re really happy with the results. It’s turned out to be a very contemporary-sounding trancer with plenty of twists and turns, and there's now a clip added to www.myspace.com/jurraneproductions.

(2.) Vicky Devine: ‘Silver Whispers’ (Nick Rowland’s Version 2.0 remix) – Insatiable
Vicky Devine’s had a great year with some fantastic productions and a very full international bookings diary. Here, her latest track is remixed to great effect by Nick Rowland who transforms it into an amazing piece of driving trance with bags of energy and some really cool synths.

(3.) Andy Blueman: ‘Nyctalopia’ (Onova remix) – Perceptive
Onova’s another new producer who’s had a storming 2007. Probably his finest moment yet, he’s on remix duties here for Andy Blueman’s wonderful orchestral trancer ‘Nyctalopia’, full of soaring pads and euphoric synths, and taking dancefloors back to that big-room ’99 sound. Wonderful stuff.

(4.) Pixel & Wrecked Machines: ‘Mother Funker’ (original mix) – Spun
Very commercial-sounding psytrance here, as recently heard on Astrix’s amazing covermount CD for DJ Magazine. I’m a big fan of this sort of psy: energetic, not too introverted and with enough mainstream crossover to make it work in those late night club trance sets. Well worth tracking down.

(5.) Greg Downey: ‘Once Again’ (Activa’s Airflow remix) – Discover
Greg Downey returns to his trance roots after a series of tech-influenced releases on the various Discover labels. The original’s nice enough but it’s Activa who steals the show here with one of the best synth grooves I’ve heard in a track for ages.

(6.) Dennis Shepherd: ‘A Tribute To Life’ (Martin Roth remix) – MPFS
Very cool progressive trance from Martin Roth who provides lashings of deep, dark synth noises to form a massive wall of sound in this futuristic remix. I love prog like this and, for me, this could well be Roth’s best production yet. Superb.

(7.) Members Of Mayday: ’10 In 1’ (Dave Murtagh remix) – CDR
A sacred trance classic gets a superb funky prog rework from Dave Murtagh. Very respectfully done, this is great for that instant-recognition factor, which is important for early-night sets. Congratulations to Dave for a great piece of production.

(8.) Nucvise vs Static Blue: ‘Fallout’ (Ian Betts remix) – Wildchild
Presumably the label has no links with the disgraced UK trance promotion but regardless, this is another top-drawer effort from Ian Betts who does the uplifting trance thing better than virtually everyone else these days. Exclusive to TrackItDown, this is definitely worth checking out.

(9.) Alan M: ‘Famicom’ (original mix) – Real Beatz
There’s more than a touch of Nitrous Oxide – both in production style and melody – in this Anjuna-style trancer from newcomer Alan M. One to put smiles on faces on those 1am dancefloors.

(10.) Above & Beyond: ‘Home’ (Stoneface & Terminal remix) – Anjunabeats
It’s been out for a little while now but the Stoneface & Terminal remix of this great vocal trancer seems to’ve come from nowwhere. Like so many other trance tracks around at the moment, this one contrasts a huge electro bassline with the soaring euphoria of the breakdown – and this time it works.
