August Trance Chart
(artist/title/mix/label)
(1.) Sean Tyas pres. Logistic: ‘One More Night Out’ (original mix) – A State Of Trance
As things stand, this is my tune of the year for 2007 so far. In a month where the top 3 tracks I’ve charted would easily be #1 on any other month, this stunning pumping trancer beats them all and sets the standard for trance music this year. This is everything I look for in trance music.
(2.) John Askew: ‘Chime’ (original mix) – Discover
By far John Askew’s greatest ever work and probably my #2 track of the year as things stand. Bags of energy, superb synth programming and a wonderful dreamy - but totally uplifting – melody which reminds me of New Order: ‘World In Motion’ for some reason. Amazing.
(3.) Neal Scarborough: ‘Madagascar’ (original mix) – Soundpiercing
Less a remix and more a cover version but blinding nonetheless. Another track that would easily be #1 in my chart during any other month, Neal’s amazing rework takes the best elements of the original and Ferry Corsten mixes from back in the day, and transforms them into a cutting-edge dancefloor destroyer. Great stuff.
(4.) Ground Control: ‘Then & Now’ (Sly One vs Jurrane remix) – Emalodic
A limited promo is now out there ready for an August release and there should be a clip on the Production page of my website www.jurrane.com by the time you read this. We’re both very proud of – and have high hopes for – our latest remix, and very grateful to Adam White for the great support he’s already shown to this one.
(5.) Quivver: ‘Dancing In Dark Rooms’ (original mix) – Baroque
John Graham aka Quivver has been making quality dance music for years and years now but this is the first time I’ve charted one of his productions. Probably one of my favourite prog tracks of the year: a deep, dark, 80’s influenced hypnotic stormer that just builds and builds in intensity. I just can’t get enough of this.
(6.) Deems: ‘Tears Of Hope’ (Greg Downey remix) – Discover Digital
The first of two great Greg Downey tracks in my chart this month, this superbly-produced uplifting trancer pushes all the right buttons with some clever synth programming and a lovely blissed-out melody. I can see myself playing this for months.
(7.) Ben Gold: ‘Roll Cage’ (Aly & Fila remix) – Flux Delux
Discover continue to dominate this month’s chart as they ramp up their release schedule for the summer. Aly & Fila provide the standout mix here with a great rework that brings back memories of Nu-NRG’s seminal ‘Dreamland’. The original’s not bad either – a great package from Flux Delux.
(8.) Tom Colontonio: ‘Maximiser’ (original mix) – Discover Digital
New York’s Tom Colontonio underlines his credentials as a name to watch with ‘Maximiser’, the better half of a two-track EP about to be released on Discover Digital. This manages to be absolutely typical of the Discover sound but still sound fresh and original. A seriously mighty bass end as well.
(9.) Bedrock: ‘Heaven Scent’ (Greg Downey remix) – Bedrock
The jury’s still out on whether this classic really needed a new remix but Bedrock loved Downey’s rework so much they released it anyway. This one’s been getting a lot of press and for good reason: it’s a very respectful and contemporary rework that retains all the best parts of the original while upping the energy levels.
(10.) Jason van Wyk pres. North Star: ‘Out Of Sight’ (original mix) – Nukleuz
Nukleuz are of course famous for the harder-edged trance and hard dance sound but they buck the trend here with this nice uplifting trancer that’s well worth checking out. Perfect for the summer and with shades of that classic ’99 sound that people keep talking about, this is ideal for those 3am dancefloors.
