May Trance Chart

(artist/title/mix/label)

(1.) Orchid Star: ‘Passion’ (Sly One vs Jurrane remix) – CDR
Not far off completion now, just in time for us to start our next remix project (watch this space!). We’ve managed to transform this lush 96 bpm chillout track into a blissed-out, feelgood trancer with more than a few nods to Solar Stone and Robert Nickson.

(2.) Santerna pres. Alteron: ‘Prayer For A God’ (Reaves & Ahon remix) – Mondo
Judging by the credit, I’d say this is a cover version rather than a remix but regardless, it’s damn good. I always felt the Darren Tate original lacked a bit of energy but this superb rework has sorted that right out. Great stuff.

(3.) FKN feat. Jahala: ‘Why’ (Aly & Fila remix) – Vandit
Egypt’s Aly & Fila have received a lot of hype already this year and this is their strongest remix effort for a while. Plenty of power and pace in this one, and some neat vocal production as well. Can’t wait to hear more from these guys in ’07.

(4.) Dj Eco: ‘Light At The End’ (Lost World remix) – Lunatique
John O’Callaghan and Thomas Bronzwaer aka Lost World team up again to turn in this classy melodic trancer that’s finding favour with all the usual suspects. This has all the hallmarks of one of the potential standout tunes of 2007.

(5.) Stefan Cambridge: ‘Enya’ (Mystery Islands remix) – Afterglow
Whether this track has been written in homage to breathy-voiced Celtic songstress Enya is unclear but I’m loving this superb Mystery Island remix that follows in the footsteps of many other of this great producer’s recent tracks. Afterglow are having another superb year.

(6.) Paul Webster: ‘Corruption’ (Greg Downey remix) – Captivating
It’s the Greg Downey remix that deserves the plaudits here: tough, pumping trance that falls somewhere between the tech and uplifting. Downey’s techno influences are more than evident but there’s enough interest for trance DJs like me.

(7.) Ultra: ‘Free’ (Martin Roth Nu-Style remix) – Klubbstyle
Fluffy trance anthem ‘Free’ gets deep down and dirty courtesy of Martin Roth who applies his trademark touch to such a degree that the original track’s completely unrecognisable (all that remains is the familiar vocal sample). Sitting somewhere between filthy prog and trance, this is well worth tracking down.

(8.) Thomas Bronzwaer: ‘Constellation’ (John O’Callaghan remix) – Vandit
There seems to be a bit of a buzz around about good old-fashioned uplifting trance making a return after all these swathes of tech recently. Of course it never really went away but this lovely melodic trancer has more than a few shades of classic ’99 trance about it.

(9.) Airspace vs Brad Thatcher: ‘The Truth’ (original mix) – Riot
Airspace aka Ian Betts and Brad Thatcher combine forces to turn in this high-octane hard trancer that offers bags of energy and a killer melodic riff. One for the harder DJs but also accessible enough to feature in those late-night trance sets.

(10.) Mark Eteson: ‘Atlantic’ (Digital Nature remix) – Monster
Romanian producer Digital Nature provides the pick of the remixes from a long-overdue new release from Monster Tunes. Another of those tunes that sits somewhere between tech and melodic, combining the best of both to good effect.

A couple of quick reminders: you can catch my debut sets as the new trance resident for underground party phenomenon Planet Angel this Friday (4th May: 10 - 11.30 pm then 3.00 - 4.30 am), and don't forget there's no less than four new mixes available for download from the Downloads page at www.jurrane.com. Thanks for reading! Smile
