Rob Tissera will be having One AWsum Xmas!

Reported by Simon Gordon / Submitted 01-12-09 22:27

With a string of hits behind him and a big, fat smile in front of him, there seems to be no stopping Rob Tisserra. Simon Gordon went to ask about new heads, sound systems and dream back to backs.

Making a rare London appearance at Hidden this Saturday 5th December for One Awsum Xmas. I found out just what 2009 had in store for Rob and his plans for 2010 in this exclusive HarderFaster interview.

2009 has seen you with your hard dance head firmly back. How has it been for you?

2009 has been great thanks. I’ve just chosen to do the very best events rather than haul my ass to every gig all over Britain. Quality rather than quantity is the way forward for me.

What have been your top three tracks?

Xinted - Propaganda - MDA & Spherical mix
Rodi Style - Pistol Packin'
Sweet Dreams - Dr Device bootleg

You played at AWsumsexual on the May Bank Holiday at Air. What was it like? What was your stand out track?

Probably the three tracks above funnily enough! The gig was fantastic and it's great to see Andy and the AWsum crew doing events that give the established brands a run for their money

What was Ibiza like this Summer?

Amazing thanks. We did Kissdafunk at Judgement Sundays, which was easily one of the busiest nights on the island. I got to play in the main room a few times which was fantastic!

What are your production plans for the next three months?

I have been really busy making some new hard stuff on my own. That’s going great although, I’m also in the studio next week with Rodi Style and I’m in with Ilogik the week after. I’m also talking to Alf (Technikal) about a follow up to Freefalling which has only just been released on tidy.

Andy Whitby vs Rob Tissera at AWsum Storm this weekend! Have you spoken with Andy yet? This looks like it could be one of the sets of 2009!

This looks like it could be one of the sets of 2009! I really can't wait for that! We spoke at the Atomik Weekender. We’re really aiming to make it a unique set. We’re going to speak tonight so wee can make it as tight as possible!

You are playing in the Main Room for AWsum's 2nd Birthday. What preparation do you make for a big set like that?

I look at the line up and try to find some tracks that none of the DJs on the line up are going to play. This’ll be tougher than most gigs, as so many of my favorite producers are also on the line up. Don’t worry though; I have a few special tracks that I’ve done myself that will hopefully hit the spot, hehe!

The Main Room at Hidden now has a brand new straight out of the box Nova system. Have you noticed other venues starting to invest in their sound systems?

Of course. The sound is so important although I’m also keen on clubs spending money on more lights, nice security with zero attitude and better toilets.

What are your goals for 2010?

I want to do quite a few more tracks both on tidy and the very best labels. I also want to keep doing more gigs like the ones we've been talking about. I’m a workaholic so there's no chance of me slowing up.

If you could create your dream hard dance line up who would make the grade and why?

It wouldn't be too different from the one at hidden although I’d add Lisa Lashes, The Tidy Boys, Rodi, Ilogik and Anne Savage to name but a few. You never know.... maybe I’ll put a gig like that on one day. Watch this space!

We are coming round for Dinner! What is on the menu?

Scallops with chorizo to start, Sea Bass fillets with a lemon and caper butter sauce on a bed of tagliatelle then strawberries with a chocolate fondue!

When you are not making music what do you like to do to relax?

I love to cook and I love to spend time with my girlfriend Anna. We have such a laugh together. Which is what life is all about!!

I also love to play Pro Evolution Soccer online and Street Fighter. Anna is fantastic at the latter so I regularly get my butt kicked!!

What has been your favorite film of 2009?

There weren’t many great ones about but Inglorious Basterds was probably the best of all.

Would you ever play another style of hard dance?

I already travel the world playing house music with Kissdafunk if that counts?

If you could go back in time to one club what would it be and why?

The Hacienda in Manchester because it's the club that gave birth to the whole British scene in my opinion.

Thanks very much and I can't wait for next week. Rob T!
