Multi award winning singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and actress Kylie Minogue will be performing live at the Sun City Super Bowl on the 8thand 9th July 2011 and the Grand Arena in Cape Town on the 13th and 14th July. Kylie has been touring since February this year and her show has been receiving rave reviews. The Telegraph in the UK says, “Kylie is not just a pop star anymore she is a goddess.”
She commented “I have been looking for an opportunity to perform in South Africa for a very long time so I am really delighted that I can now confirm I will be visiting Johannesburg and Cape Town in July this year. I’ve been having a wonderful time touring Aphrodite and I’m absolutely thrilled I will be able to bring ‘Aphrodite Live’ to South Africa.”
The Australian recording artist released her eleventh studio album Aphrodite in July 2010. The album debuted at number one on the UK Album Charts, similar to her debut album Kylie that entered the charts at the same position 22 years ago. Minogue’s success has promulgated over the years making her the first women in UK history to have a number one album in four consecutive decades, selling over 60 million albums world wide.
Her first single from her latest album “All the Lovers” caused such a frenzy among fans that it temporarily crashed the singer’s website prior to the album release date in April 2010.
Kylie’s most celebrated hits include “Locomotion”, “Spinning Around”, “On a Night Like This” and “ 2 Hearts” all potent with disco, pop and electro influences, a formula that has provided her enormous commercial success around the globe. In 2004 she won her first Grammy Award in the Best Dance category. She has also received numerous Brit and MTV Europe Awards over the years.
If the entertainer’s Show Girl: The Homecoming Tour in 2005 is a preview of what South African fans can anticipate during her SA visit then they are in for an extravagant unrelenting treat. The elaborate costumes, dazzling set, immaculate sound and great visuals are all part of the show’s architecture.
Kylie acknowledges that she is considered a gay icon. She admits that she first became aware of her gay following in 1988 when several drag queens performed to her music in a Sydney pub. Since then her following has swelled and she often performs at gay venues around the world indulging her most favourite impersonators. In 1994 she headlined Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
Despite being diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005, Kylie still continued to work on other projects close to her heart. Her children’s book Show Girl Princess Diaries was written in December 2005 and published the following year. “Darling” her perfume line was launched shortly thereafter in November 2006. More perfume releases would follow from ‘Kylie’s House of Perfumes,’ counting five for the singer in as many years, with Pink Sparkle Pop as her signature scent for 2011. She also has her own successful bed linen line “Kylie Minogue at Home.”
In addition to her eleven studio albums Kylie has released three live CDs; eight live concert DVD’s, plus her Greatest Hits, Ultimate Kylie double album and several remix albums.
