I think the whole '80s feeling throughout the film is part of its charm.
I know what you mean about the cringeworthy band though, the greased up musclebloke playing sax lol

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it didn't make it bad. It's just one of those times when at the time it all seemed 'normal'. In fact I probably looked a lot like many of them with a shit mullet and stonewashed denim.

It's just strange how times change. Greased up muscle bloke indeed.

I think the whole 80's feeling was probably because it was made in the 80's Big grin

Yeah, directors did that for a long time to give their movies an 80's feel. About a decade in fact...

Directors then were too focussed on the now rather than being forward thinking.

Bladerunner wasn't set in the 80's. Or Aliens. Or Empire Strikes Back. Or Return of the Jedi. Or Back To The Future. Or Star Trek 2, 3 and 4.
Oh Seymour.....

The Bay

You all remember seeing this lovely critter last year, right?

Well, shortly after that meme done the rounds, Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man, Sleepers etc) said he just had to make a movie about it - a found footage body horror of a movie in fact - and boy is it good!!! Its serious tone and genuine scares make for an unsettling experience as small town America is eaten from the inside out. 8

Red Dawn.

As a mindless little Saturday afternoon it was ok to switch my brain off to. The whole invasion of the USA premise was interesting enough, but at the same time not enough was done with it.
