It’s certainly interesting being an anonymous clubber in a nondescript club. Identikit people, voices drowned out in music by numbers. I sit here as the back room rocks to offbeat breaks, “It’s Right Before My Eyes” maybe in more ways than one.
Is club culture lost to corporations, coolness and the dreaded consumer? Or am I just being jaded and cynical as I watch islands of humanity interact in their own unique ways? Separated by oceans of indifference.
A dress seam sways with the beat but my mind questions the resolve. Is it a sense of duty, a Friday night routine? Maybe, just maybe, it’s some kind of devotion to the music. Secretly I ponder if it’s just the effects of the selfish gene on a replication drive. It’s funny what you can read into the physics of a hem line.
The clubber is dead, long live the club. All pretence is lost, you pay to enjoy.
Here’s to 6am. Here’s to the music. Here’s to us because at the end that’s all that’s left.
Remember the smiley face of raves gone by? A copyright in the making. Soon fun will come packaged, a box to open and enjoy. A government sponsored party brought to you by Pfizer.
Carpe Diem my friend, for who knows what tomorrow brings.
