April Trance Chart
(artist/title/mix/label)
(1.) Elude: ‘Purgatory’ (Ian Betts remix) – Six:Thirty
Incredible pumping trance with a melody to die for. Ian Betts and Six:Thirty are on absolute fire right now, and this exemplifies the fantastic output from what’s probably been my favourite label over the past few months. If you like uplifting trance, check this out NOW.
(2.) Thomas Bronzwaer: ‘Shadow World’ (original mix) – Yakuza
Magnificently mean and moody trance with a serious bass end. Thomas Bronzwaer’s another producer who can do no wrong at the moment as he follows-up ‘Close Horizon’ with another dancefloor destroyer. There’s also a classy Midway remix but it’s all about the original for me.
(3.) Nu-NRG: ‘Casino’ (original mix) – Monster
This relentless, bouncy trancer is still rocking my world and causing mayhem everywhere it’s played. ‘Casino’ really is proper trance music: I challenge anyone not to dance to that amazing pumping groove when it all kicks in after *that* breakdown…. ;-)
(4.) Narthex: ‘Bully’ (Parc remix) – Discover Dark
Jezper Soderlund dons his Narthex/Parc guise to follow-up his incredible remix of ‘Kissed’ with this dark, psy-influenced track which starts with a stripped-down minimal feel and gradually builds into an intense, driving, full-on trance stormer.
(5.) Peter Dafnous: ‘Face The Change’ (original) – Conspiracy
A lovely feelgood production from Peter Dafnous who’s been responsible for some great music of late. This one has that fantastic 1am blissed-out feel that’ll get the dancefloor smiling every time.
(6.) Zirenz: ‘Utopia’ (Gavyn Mytchell remix) – Mondo
Superb, atmospheric filmscore trance is the order of the day here as Gavyn Mytchell turns in a beautifully crafted remix that reminds me of rain-drenched, Blade Runner-esque future city streets. Wonderful stuff.
(7.) Aled Mann: ‘Cold Fusion’ (Sean Tyas remix) – Discover
Sean Tyas’ brand of tough, but very credible trance is perfect for Discover and his debut for the label doesn’t disappoint at all. John Askew has recently labelled Tyas as one to watch and I can’t wait to hear what else is in the pipeline. More like this please!
(8.) The Viceroy vs Karl Gunton: ‘Perception’ (Kuffdam & Plant remix) – Vaccine Digital
I charted the original mix of this one a few months back and it’s been doing the business ever since. Now confirmed as the launch release on the new Vaccine Digital label, ‘Perception’ has benefitted from a superb Kuffdam & Plant remix which pushes all the right buttons.
(9.) Steve Morley: ‘Questions’ (Ian Betts remix) – Essential
Second appearance in my chart this month for Ian Betts, who can seemingly do no wrong at the moment. I remember this one rocking the floor at Knowwhere a couple of months back and I’ve been loving it ever since.
(10.) Robert Nickson: ‘Close Your Eyes’ (dub mix) – A State Of Trance
I’ve been waiting a while for an original Robert Nickson track, especially after his promising remix of Jon O’Bir’s ‘Effectual’ a couple of months ago. ‘Close Your Eyes’ is a welcome return to form for one of my favourite producers - let’s hope there’s more in the pipeline.
