We Pick The Year, You Pick The Songs and The Rest Is History
The Record Player has a simple premise: each month we pick an influential year in musical history and host a night where we only play tracks released in those 12 months. It's a club night devoted to the sheer thrill of music you might not have been old enough to enjoy the first time round...
1970.
Time to clear out the old and start with something new.
Bye Bye swinging 60s. The children of the revolution are about to get glam.
The Beatles let it be forever - as Marc Bolan's T Rex start to Get It On.
1970 - RIP Jimi Hendrix.
Miles Davis changes jazz forever with 'Bitches Brew' and Jimmy Cliff and Desmond Dekker take lyrically conscious black music to the masses. You can get it if you really want....
The UK feels a whole lotta love as Led Zep become rock's first mega group
Midi and maxi skirts take over as mini skirts go out of fashion. Men finally start getting trendy as George Best becomes the bad boy fashion icon.
Some farm in Glastonbury opens it's gates for the first time.
And now for something completely bonkers. 1970 Monty Python is born.
Jumbo jets land for the first time and the first ever floppy disk gets filled.
Brazil win the world cup with Pele at his best (whilst we have George Best being his worst).
And at the flicks M*A*S*H* shows America the funny side to war, and Love Story makes women swoon round the world.
Welcome to 1970. Wonderful world, beautiful people.
