[Edited by dantengwen on 13-11-2018 18:26 PM][Edited by Matt on 05-12-2018 23:19 PM] 1/2 years at my favorite gay bar (started mixing music videos on their virtual DJ setup, convinced them to let me bring my turntables one night and it took off from there)
1 3/4 years as on stage DJ/co host for a burlesque show
1 year and change at a late night eatery
Half a year doing live visuals (I do glitch art and mix abstract visuals live on stage next to the DJs) for a hip-hop night
Just the other month started a new monthly playing classic house, hip-hop, bounce, and techno (a ton of people actually show up too!) and also doing live visuals
Gotta say, and this may sound weird, but the eatery gig has really made me a better DJ. I get to play modern vibey funk, soul, and house without trying to make anyone dance. Before if I found some great new artist I would try to hamstring it into the early part of a dance night.
Build relationships, help your fellow DJs, show up early, focus on technical skills and taste, and play a request or two
