A son keeps the family name going, therefore they are more desirable offspring to have, happens all over the East. Parents of men getting special treatment as a result is indeed sexist, regardless of it being tradition.

Tradtion says sons are more desirable but logic states a son is no guarantee that he will look after his parents.
