The insurmountable spirit of the Zoo Project drifts round the abandoned old animal space again this week, all warm and encompassing courtesy of the South American sounds of Argenis Brito & Miguel Toro Live, with Buckley representing the UK with his sleeves of underground house music.
The Zoo team aim to inject some fun back into techno – and with their animal themes, four arenas, tribal percussionists, jungle fire spinners and animal dance performance hosted by The Minx FX, they are going the right way about it. Fresh party offerings like this shouldn’t be sniffed at.
As a trained musician, Argenis Brito has an edge. He can work a melody, charm the floor and drop an array of different beats, many rooted in his homeland of Venezuela. That part of the world’s carnival core and percussion flecked Latin house and techno has fashioned him into a producer snapped up by Luciano’s Cadenza, as well as Lo-Fi Recordings and Crosstown Rebels.
Miguel Toro’s wax has been pressed by Cadenza, Moonharbour and Motivbank – bleeding edge labels whose tracks lock dancefloors in, the world over. As a live percussionist he adds weight to Samin’s live performances, and has co-funded, played, recorded and toured with the fusion-bands La Calle and Pan for years, always pushing the boundaries of rock, salsa, hip hop and electronica.
With less fiesta but quality in equal measure, Back to Basic resident Buckley provides some solid house grooves to get down to, and some pulsing minimal vibes to get lost in.
Also playing are residents Defex | Milou | Michael James | Clint Lee | Jean Cedric | Gow | Nic & Kaleb and Robert James, so it is for good reason that this party has quickly become recognized as one of Ibiza’s most genuine and enjoyable house and techno gatherings. Why not submerse yourself amongst the animal tendencies, grafted cages and water pits, or don a bestial costume? Like the rest - you’ll fit right in.
