CLUB UK PRESS RELEASE :: THE ICONIC CLUB IS COMING BACK!

Club 414 Brixton under threat again!

Reported by Club414 / Submitted 19-09-17 22:08

Ok everyone, once again your home from home CLUB 414 is being threatened with closure and WE NEED YOUR HELP by following the link below and objecting to the planning permission.

This time they are trying to turn Club 414 into a high class cocktail bar, what purpose that serves on Coldharbour Lane is anybody's guess, but it certainly isn't in the interests of either the local community or the night time visitors that make the place a haven for clubbers and music enthusiasts. The chain trying it on have 2. branches in Clapham just up the road already, a much more suitable place for that kind of thing, and the independent bar next door to 414 already serves cocktails, so what use is another bar doing exactly the same thing? Please help by objecting now!! The following objection posted in the comments underneath this post has already been submitted and has a few points that are going to sway the case on technical issues that are worth including in your objection so please refer to some of these clauses if you can, it will help. Save the 414!!!

The 2015 London Plan states: "Boroughs should encourage a diverse range of night-time activities, expanding culture and leisure venues other than eating and drinking." Which couldn’t be more relevant to keeping Club 414 open – another generic cocktail bar just isn’t necessary! Object to planning permission.

The application fails to quote a number of relevant Local Plan policies, in particular ED2 which states that "the loss of land or floorspace in [...] employment-generating sui generis use will not be supported unless clear and robust evidence is submitted which shows there is no demand for the floorspace. Such evidence must demonstrate that the floorspace has been vacant and continuously marketed for a period of at least one year". The application provides no such evidence and with good reason: Club 414 has been operating continuously since 1985.

The lack of consideration of planning policy and guidance published by the London Assembly reflects either an astounding lack of awareness of, or a blatant disrespect for, the numerous actions taken by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly over the past few years, most notably the appointment of a Night Time Commission and of a Night Czar, in an attempt to safeguard London's nightlife which, needless to say, greatly relies on its nightclubs.
