Sorry for the boring thread....

Am much vexed after forking out £550 on this http://www.directtvs.co.uk/LG_47LD950_47_inch_3D_passive_LCD_TV_47LD950/version.asp

with the sole aim of watching downloaded HD movies (and the occasional legally purchased DVD) on a big screen

I connected TV to laptop http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Pentium-Wireless-Windows-Premium/dp/B0045UBCR6/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1335303791&sr=1-1 using my new HDMI cable....

and though a picture came up, it was grainy! not so bad when i actually played the video (though quality wasn't GREAT, ) but when using it as a PC monitor, the screen had lines up and down it,

I assumed the big screen would just project what's on the laptop screen, am i wrong? or are the two devices just not compatible?

Help!

Change the resolution on the display setting for the TV. (probably output 2)

What he said, sounds like your laptop isn't set to right screen res of the TV. Open the display settings in control panel and change it.

Sorry that wasn't clear, set the resolution for the output to the TV, on your display settings on the laptop. (Shouldn't have to do anything for the TV, provided you are on the correct HDMI channel)

No, TVs aren't as good as monitors, Play with it, but keep the res between about 1024x768 up to about 1920 × 1080. Any higher will be too much for the TV and you'll lose the edges.
