Spambots. Especially those that are pretty fucking quick.
We're running Google Recaptcha on registrations, plus a couple of our own anti-bot techniques so I suspect these are real people whose job is to register and activate accounts and then post.
What's more interesting are the accounts which register and sometimes activate, but they return weeks or months later to post. I guess that gets around the "can't post links if you've just registered" approach...

Tbh, I'm just extremely temperamental today because of work shit. I'm trying to contain it but having to tell my boss to get his head in the game tends to make me a bit edgy of late. It's also year end account time. Which would go much faster if said head was not up his arse instead.
