Hello,

I have a lumix g85, which I normally like a lot, but I periodically have difficulty having what I see with my eyes match what appears in the EVF and the photo. Typically the colors seem a little desaturated and too light. This typically happens in low light or cloudy conditions, and I have tried using the cloudy setting but it really hasn't helped much. Sunny days not much problem. Is there a way to use an 18% gray card to set the balance as a custom balance in-camera? I have also tried to simply adjust white balance using the control for that purpose, but it is a little finicky and still doesn't seem to give a good match. If not white balance, is there another issue I should be addressing?

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Hi, & Welcome to HF.

I'm not an expert either but why use 18% grey card? When I used to do video stuff, we just used a sheet of A4 copier paper. This will give off 'white' in whatever environment you're in. Using grey will shift the white balance in a direction that might not be appropriate for a realistic representation of colour and contrast in the image. Like, you'd use it as a special effect rather than a basic calibration tool.

Futhermore, although I've no experience with your particular device, I would imagine that the EVF isn't an accurate representation of the end result - its purpose is there to help you frame the shot more than anything else - I wouldn't expect it to be 100% colour accurate.
