Label: Airspace
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance
Newish label Airspace seem to be aiming for the ‘Proper’ Trance Sound! By that I mean wobbly arpeggiations, soaring strings and pads, epics breakdowns and no vocals.
I hope they keep this up.
Was sent a batch of releases so starting with one of my favourites, this seems most likely to be the most upfront too. It is also among the best of their releases so far. So here we have two tracks from James Williams.
Midnight Rain
Clocking in at 138bpm you’d be forgiven for thinking this is a little faster as it has a real sense of urgency about it. There are also moments throughout the tune where it sounds like Hard Trance.
An acid bass grinds away under plinky synths with rising pads suddenly giving way to the main riff.
The breakdown has a few little gentle piano notes in it, which is always a winner for me. When it builds back up is when it is at its most Hard Trancey. This is no a bad thing at all.
Good chunky Trance tune with a bit of meat to it.
8/10
Worlds Collide
This is your more traditional Trance track, slowly building with a much more airy feel to it. It’s all very melodic and pleasant and certainly sounds nice blaring out of my front room on a Spring Saturday morning.
Even the man wallpapering my hall is nodding his head to it.
I imagine that translated to a club will equate to a happy Dance Floor.
7/10
Two different styles of trance from the same artist and both very playable, good work.
