» Tozer / Witchcraft

Over at the VVWI camp, thing are getting weird. Witchy weird. Yup. Which, incidentally, brings us to the latest slab of techy goodness. Comprising two tracks, I’ve christened this one “The Witchcraft EP” as it has a somewhat creepy tone to it.

This is fairly leisurely and atmospheric techno with a housey centre; gently oozing its way around as it goes. Tozer opens with a somewhat low-ended groove and a nice funky beat. A piano riff comes into play and this stays until the climax of the track. In essence, this might be a bit chin-strokey for some people but I do like it. Its fairly nice house-esque techno.

Witchcraft follows and is more tribal in tone. It goes a bit darker in tone but not by much; emphasis is now focused on the beats rather than anything else. Its probably the better tune for me but that doesn’t detract from the A-side. I’d quite happily groove to it. In fact, that’s what I’m doing right now. This one also changes style from the first one: where Tozer was more techno, this is more focused on tribal house. It is a tad darker than the A-side, as mentioned above, but it still maintains a bit of lightness in its underbelly. Fairly decent.

I played Tozer on Friday at egg, went down well, nice and easy to structure some overlaid samples on it etc as it's fairly stripped down.
