Social networking experts in Germany noted this week that neither of spree killers Anders Breivik and James Holmes had a Facebook account, prompting German magazine Der Spiegel to conclude that abstaining from the site is now effectively suspicious.
US tech portal Slashdot went even further.
“Not having a Facebook account could be the first sign that you are a mass murderer,” they suggested (http://bit.ly/PX5Ayd )
News portal ActivePolitic.com were unimpressed.
“There seems to be an insanity bubble around older people which has arrived after the initial Facebook boom that brought in the youth, where they see facebook as a necessary utility,” they suggested, “instead of a trendy website that will have passed in a few years.” (http://bit.ly/LOXD9N )
