Billionaire’s Barbarian Terror

US property magnate Jeff Greene has warned that growing extreme inequality in the States could soon see ordinary people turning on the super-rich, in a revealing interview with NYMag.com. (http://bit.ly/LYGcs0 )

Urging his fellow 1percenters to pay ‘a little more taxes’ as ‘democracy insurance’, he suggested inaction could prove deadly.

“This is my fear, and it’s a real, legitimate fear,” he suggested, “You have this huge, huge class of people who are impoverished. If we keep doing what we’re doing, we will build a class of poor people that will take over this country.”

“You’re in Palm Beach, you’re in the Hamptons, you think you’re so secure,” he added, in a message to his wealthy peers, “Do you really think if you had 50,000 angry people coming across the river, you think you’re safe?”

His warnings emerged just as Cambridge University warned new students to avoid going out in town wearing tuxedos or gowns ‘to avoid becoming an "easy target" for resentful locals.

The advice was delivered in an orientation video for freshers (1st year students) called ‘Cambridge Stay Safe On A Night Out’ and though local councillor Colin Rosenstiel dismissed it as a ‘silly scare story’ the message matched earlier official University guidance, reprinted by the Daily Telegraph.

"When going out on the town, it is sound police advice that people don't provoke reactions from non-university people,” the statement recommended, “Town and gown relations are very good but there are incidents at night when it would be safer to blend in.”

University newspaper The Cambridge Student Online described one incident in local nightclub the Fez last year in which five students in dinner jackets were brutally beaten by four thugs ‘who were clearly going for people in dress shirts’. (http://bit.ly/QHl78r )

“In all, three students were hospitalised,” the paper reported, “James Green, at the time in his second year reading Economics, suffered the most serious injuries, fracturing his cheekbone and eye-socket.”

The widening disparities in wealth in the UK were also highlighted by noted anti-royalist Morrissey this week, who attacked the ‘blustering jingoism’ and ‘foul patriotism’ of the Olympics and suggested ‘no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press.’

“As London is suddenly promoted as a super-wealth brand, the England outside London shivers beneath cutbacks, tight circumstances and economic disasters. Meanwhile the British media present 24 hour coverage of the 'dazzling royals', laughing as they lavishly spend, as if such coverage is certain to make British society feel fully whole,” the Smiths singer suggested.

“As I recently drove through Greece I noticed repeated graffiti seemingly everywhere on every available wall. In large blue letters it said WAKE UP WAKE UP,” he added. (http://true-to-you.net )
