“I've never properly been kicked off the decks but when I played in Italy the party was promoted in the wrong way resulting in me playing for the wrong crowd that night . . .”
Berlin based crunchy-tech type Das Glow (aka Damien Granier) takes an impressively charitable view towards an unpleasantly disrupted recent gig.
“40 minutes into my set I was been told that I should stop soon. Then five minutes later, a security bouncer came to me to ask me to stop playing in a quite aggressive manner,” he recalls.
“I wasn’t particularly surprising because this whole party felt like a castle made of cards. I felt annoyed to have travelled all the way there to actually end up this way. Nobody benefited from it, the club owner, the promoter or we DJs.”
Skrufff: How much do you believe DJs should respond to the crowd? How far?
Das Glow: “Trying to adapt and play really different music seems stupid to me. For example, what if we are in a fancy restaurant, study the menu, select a choice then when dish is presented to us we decide if we’re going to have something else instead? It’s not the fault of the dish if we change our minds, it’s our fault for not selecting the dish we really wanted. It’s up to the promoters to
carefully select the DJs they book in order to make everyone happy.”
