Electric Daisy Disowns DJs

Reported by News Editor / Submitted 15-06-12 18:21

US festival promoter Pasquale Rotella said he hopes to transform Electric Daisy Carnival into an event where, like Burning Man, Sensation and Glastonbury, revellers attend for the event rather than for particular performers.

"Burning Man has no talent," he pointed out, speaking at a panel at Vegas’ first EDMBiz conference.

“I want to create an experience. You don't need to book the big acts who sell out arenas."

I want the budget to bring in art and production," he added. "Our strategy moving forward is we don't want to book the [big] guys.” (Billboard: http://bit.ly/MixNuJ )

His comments came despite almost 300,000 revellers turning up to see pop DJs including Tiesto, Avicii and David Guetta performing at Vegas’ second Electric Daisy Carnival event, some of whom were locked out on Saturday night when dust storms disrupted proceedings.

Revellers were forced inside the stands circling the Las Vegas Motor Speedway after ‘extremely high wind conditions’ forced organisers to shut down temporary structures including the Main stage.

‘At 2:45 a.m. Insomniac, the producer of Electric Daisy Carnival, Las Vegas, in consultation with public safety officials, made the decision that due to extremely high wind conditions, the crowd would be cleared away from the stage areas. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution and with fan safety in mind,” EDC said in a statement posted on their site.

“Earlier tonight, entry of new fans was stopped and inbound traffic is being managed by the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. As of 1 a.m. there were approximately 90,000 fans that had cleared the turnstiles into the venue.”

“Insomniac shares our fans’ disappointment that weather conditions changed the second night of the Electric Daisy Carnival experience,” Pasquale Rotella added.

“Our top priority has always been fan safety and we expect that Mother Nature will be more cooperative tomorrow as we prepare for an amazing day three.”

Sunday’s EDC passed off successfully with no further weather disruptions.
