God bless Spotify! Along with an endless paperchase of late 80's and 90's dance music to follow, it also does a sterling job in the soundtrack department.
Right now I've got Thin Red Line (best movie soundtrack of all time - so emotive), First Blood, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on rotation with a bit of Gladiator and some John Carpenter stuff thrown in.

What else can other people recommend?
The ST: Motion Picture soundtrack is truly epic, it has some really awesome and distinct sounds in it, especially when you take into account when it was made (1979). One of my favorite tracks is V'ger Flyover.
I'd recommend
Blade Runner
Tron Legacy
New Battlestar Galactica (all seasons)
Stargate Atlantis Pilot
Star Trek 2, 3, 6, 9 (9 has some good tracks on it but not all)
Also, check out the Mass Effect 2 Arrival Soundtrack

Oooh, Tron, forgot about that and I've got the Blade Runner "Trilogy" soundtrack but its a bit artsy and minimal in places.
Jerry Goldsmith has written some awesome scores in his heyday but I find he reuses a lot of motifs from his earlier work a little too much sometimes.

I don't like all of the tracks spanning all of those soundtracks, there are only maybe 20-30 tracks few in particular from the Trek movies that I like.
Joel Goldsmith, who was the composer for the Stargate franchise is the son of Jerry, however he died in April this year.
You should check out Bear McCreary as well. The did the soundtrack for New BSG, The Walking Dead, Eureka and various video games. I love his BSG stuff, out of all the soundtracks I've listened to I'd say those are the ones I go back most often. Again, I don't necessarily like all of it but I do like a lot of it in comparison to other stuff.
