Is it normal for them to be REALLY fucking slow? I've been waiting a month now from making initial contact to them even sending me a Letter of Engagement so that they are actually officially 'my lawyer'. From conversations on the phone the guy seems to really know what he is talking about but this slowness is really bothering me, the fact that even initial paperwork is taking this long to arrive is making me worry a bit and wonder if I should start looking elsewhere before it starts to become a real problem... since after all, I am not even officially his client yet and you'd think that he'd at least want me 'in the bag' before he started to dick me around, as it were.
Yep, and just wait until they start firing off enquiries to local authorities, amenities, building societies and others, all of which adds further delay and brings a whole new meaning to frustration. I recommend getting a wig - it will give you something to pull out.
Depending on what you want to do, perhaps you could look for an online company - I found online accountancy firms seem to respond far quicker than traditional bricks and mortar outfits.

Yeah well that is one of the things that is making me really annoyed. When I sent my initial enquiry, replies were almost immediate; but presumably now he thinks he has me and so can now afford to take his sweet time. Oh well I finally got him on the blower a while after originally posting and think I managed to communicate my annoyance whilst amicably getting things back on track. If stuff's not where it should be this time next week I'm gonna start looking elsewhere.

Either way, don't take any nonsense. If you are buying or selling freehold, it should take no longer than 6 weeks from initial enquiry until completion. Add an extra 2 weeks (as a bit of leeway for replies to enquiries/searches/replies to leasehold enquiries) for leasehold.
Just keep phoning and making a nuisance of yourself. The squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that. You are paying them to do a job and they should do it. In this market, there's no excuse for delays.

Only make a nuisance if you're on a fixed fee.. Otherwise you'll be charged 1 unit for each call you make, plus another couple to peruse the file, and so on..

Oddly, I know loads. In Guernsey our law is far more French based than it is UK, and to qualify over here you need to have a good knowledge of French Law. In addition there are loads of people here who own properties in France, so French Property experts are two a penny. Bung me a pm if you need more.
