First and foremost I have to say that I’m pleased with the spirit shown by the side this tournament. It’s certainly got more general support by many people who had become disillusioned with the national side, myself included.

What I can’t accept however is the level of performance we witnessed yesterday against Italy. Yes I know we have injuries but that’s no excuse to how battered we were for large periods of the second half and throughout Extra Time.

I don’t care what anyone says this is one of the weakest Italian sides for some time and yet they made us look second rate. There is an unbelievable wankfest over Pirlo at the moment and yes he is a good player, but he will be made to look an absolute world beater when he is allowed all the time and space in the world to do as he pleases.

People say we lack quality and we have to accept it. Lack quality? Starting the game we had four players who have Champions League winners medals, other players with endless Premiership titles to their name and we put in a performance like that? I wouldn’t call it gutless because we defended like our lives depended on it, but you won’t see many a game where a side looks so clueless when in possession of the ball.

I think we’ve been caught up in the whole “we never expected to get out the group” thing. Why didn’t we? As bad as we have been recently I’d always expect us to get out the group stage of the Euros and into the QF’s.

There seemed to be a togetherness in this squad something we've not seen for sometime and we can take that with us, but I'm sure I'm not alone in worrying about the level of general quality we have shown.

The only thing you can say about England is that they kept it together off the pitch. I don't think the performance in any of the games was that special. Even the win over Sweden.

A big rethink is needed with England and it will take years to get it in place.
I doubt it will ever happen.

I think it is fair to say that everyone on the Internet is annoying.

I think at least (or I like to hope) that Woy has the basis on which to progress and build for the next tournament.

This team was pretty much thrown together and now that we're out of the game he can start looking at who else is available.

With a good video review of all the performances he can see wheere we went wrong. I like to think that Woy isn;t scared of the media and will make any changes he seems fit to progress just that little bit further.

ftr Res, did you not think that we played well for the first 30 mins? I think we outclassed them them but faded very quickly.

First 25 we were excellent.

Pirlo was ineffective because Rooney or Welback was dropping back into the hole and near enough man marking him. He had no time on the ball and we benefitted from that.

Then for some reason we just stopped doing that.

I think Rooney looked knackered, which may be why.

All in all I think we did well in this tournament, Hodgson has only been in charge 5 minutes and he had a makeshift squad.

The problem we have in this country is the lack of creative players. If you look at the England squad they are all good players who play for big clubs but at each of those clubs the big star, the main creator is a foreign import.

hopefully Jack will be back soon, but we would have been better off taking joe Cole than Downing. I think the idea was Young would be the spark but he had more incomplete passes centrally than he did out wide and that was bad enough.

What I don't understand is that everyone could see the problem with Pirlo by the end of the first half so why wasn't something done about it. Either from a change in formation (drop Rooney into midfield and play 4-5-1) or make a substiution.

There's nothing wrong with you that reincarnation won't cure.

This is our problem: Every time one of our players gets the ball they instinctively look for the foreign guy who is good at passing to give it to, because that's how it works at their clubs. How many creative midfielders have we got? We make good defenders in this country but we don't develop good passers of the ball.

Joe Cole, Jack Wilshire, Rodwell potentially, depending on your point of view Carrick, Joey Barton, That young fella at Chelsea (forget his name)... the most interesting ones seem to be younger. It'll be good to see if they can get into GB squad and make some impression. Also with the natinal academy now up and running we have the potential effect of that to factor in.

Dunno about Barton? Carrick certainly used to have good passing but in the two games I watched him properly lastseason (two fixtures vs Spurs) he was dominated by young Jake Livermore on both occasions so I don't think he can cut it at international level.

Jack Wiltshire defnitely, big shame he missed this tounament.

Do you mean Josh McEachran? Cos he hardly got a game, even on loan to Swansea. I think this is the difficulty for a lot of young English players. There's a very talented Spurs academy player called Tom Carroll who really impressed in the Europa League last year (very similar in style to Modric) but has never played an EPL fixture for us. If young players don't get game time then they will never reach their full potential.

That's the one. It'll be interesting to see what happens wit Di matteo at chelsea this year as he was quite willing to bring some players on like bertrand so here's hoping. Barton was half joking but still reckon he would be a better option than downing, lol.
