So the stats say he was fit enough to start against Fiorentina and but only play 15 minutes against Wigan. At home.

Are you saying he's actually getting even more unfit?

Fiorentina was an (almost) nothing game. His performance levels were less crucial so it was a perfect chance to just give him some time to get some match fitness and regain game awareness.

He'll get there. What's not in doubt is he has the quality. The issue is to manage him back properly (from almost a year out and no preseason training) and see how quickly and well he can adjust to premier league football and fit into our systems. Hopefully that's soon, and in the meantime we'll make do with Mash, Lucas and Gerrard and listen to idiots talk nonsense about how he's secretly a sunday leaguer.

Face facts.

You're facing financial meltdown, and this crock is the cherry on the cake.

I'd wager he won't be at Liverpool next year having sold him for about 10M

You can sit there and defend your club paying 20M for an injured player, who's been fit for weeks yet only plays a few minutes here.

Your manager has lost the plot.

You know it too, you're just trying to follow the typical scouse "we back our managers no matter what" stance.

I'm glad, it just means less competition for fourth spot, because let me tell you. You lot won't get it with him in charge.

Look, you're a nice guy but pretty fucking clueless even as an armchair fan when it comes to anything other than pub banter so I'm not expecting you to entertain something so profoundly difficult as easing a recovering player into a new squad.

If we ever get around to discussing Rafa's wife's tits though, take that as an invitation to join in.

I have to say Donnie has a good point here.

Benitez has on many occasions thrown on a half fit Torres where quite clearly he looks shattered and out of shape.

I know very little of Aquilani as a player (how good he is etc) but it seems odd that a struggling side is not fielding a 20m signing when he is fit to play. If anything, keeping on the bench so much is only go to do him more harm than good.

Liverpool are under a lot of pressure and you can see that in the players faces and performances, and most importantly, you can see it Benetiz face and hear it in his voice during his interviews. As for making the guaranteed top 4 finish the other day (so I gather from MOTD), that has to be the most stupid thing he has done to date.

He made the mistake of trying to kick Alonso out of the squad to get Barry and it has backfired as he is now without an obvious key player, no barry and a 20m substitute.

The board have to shoulder as much blame as the manager but worrying times for Liverpool, a team that have always relied on 1 or 2 players for success.

Will be interesting to see whether they make it through this but I would willing to bet that by start of next season, Liverpool are up for sale and under new management.

Torres is a proven performer for Liverpool, they'll always do everything they can to get him and Gerrard on the field if they think they might hold up and the game is important enough.

I don't disagree that they are proven performers but to risk them in that way is very risky and very dangerous. It also shows the lack of depth and the unhealthy dependancy Liverpool have on Gerrard & Torres.

If Aquilani is fit, which he is, he should be getting games.

Neither player will play if they don't think they can and the club won't risk them if the risks are too high. Both have missed huge games on many occasions when they've been touch and go. That shows while there is a dependency on two of our world class players, people are able to be sensible about it.

Aquilani started last week, got 30 mins against Arsenal and a handful last night. I'm sure he'll get more over the next few weeks. No doubt then the same old chorus will immediately sing out how he doesn't look up to it and worth the money.

You hope. So far it's not looking good for Aquilani or Liverpool.

Not at all. I said so far. I am just looking at it objectively. It's nearly xmas and has not seen the light of day of Liverpool shirt. He was purchased for 20M whilst injured. Benitez has not done well in the transfer market recently. You are struggling to get past sides such as Wigan, you get defeated by your own fans beach ball, out of the champions league and still struggling for form at possibly one of the most important stages of the season when it comes to the shape of the league. Again, this was meant to be Liverpool season and so far, it's gone very very wrong, again.

You can tell in your managers face he is worried for his future and that is spilling over to the pitch. All I am saying is Liverpool fans should be very concerned right now and Donnie has a point.
