Generally I've found that 99% of what's online about medical stuff is horrendous. Never, ever Google anything medical, there's too much noise from hypochondriacs, nutters and the half-informed.

I saw this report and which goes to show that the internet can be beneficial in medical research:

US teen invents advanced cancer test using Google

He did take his work to universities and was mentored by a professor.

Apparently GPs' biggest concern these days is patients walking in to surgeries all flustered having undertaken incorrect internet "self-diagnosis".

Yeah, these people are good fun - the most innocuous symptom can lead to a cancer self-diagnosis. Although one did correctly diagnose herself with menopause recently. There are really good sites out there run by medical practitioners, and then there are the "self-help" forums which are run by people who are not only hypochondriacs but also munchausen and do oneupmanship with their illnesses. "Oh, you think you have bad headaches? Well, mine have been compared with brain tumours..."

This is only a result of the fact most people do not have the basic understanding of how to research and understand what they are researching.

The internet is a powerful tool blessed with all the information one person would need. This is why the NHS are in the process of building a health based "wikepedia" which will ensure that people have a one stop access to a reliable source. With a small improvement to the NHS patient specialist program - more power and knowledge will be in the hands of the patient to work with their doctors.

tBF, NHS Direct website is actually a fairly decent tool anyway - it has a symptom checker which can usually help quite a bit. Although it is quite tedious as it tailors the response to you personally and most people want instant answers rather than go through the process. patient.co.uk is also very good and used by GPs.

WedMD is fucking bullshit, by the way. American site which slants towards prescriptions for everything - quel surprise!

I've got no opinions one way or the other about the state of your mental health, but I am becoming increasingly concerned by your habit of parenthesising words at random in every post...

parenthesising is putting words in brackets..

Balls. I didn't mean parentheses (As Ed has correctly pointed out), I meant quotation marks. You have a habit of putting random words in quotation marks, it's unsettling.

Or should I say, "unsettling"...

Sweet dude Smile You always come out with gems, muchos apprecio 0/.

Will check them out this evening; the random probability drive decided it was neccesary to leave both keys in the flat so just waiting for a lock smith - looking forward to see what it brings o/

I have no idea what you mean by random probability drive but from what you've written it sounds as though you have allowed random odds to decide that you should purposely lock yourself out of your flat? A bit odd, have you read The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart? Is this your own version of dice therapy?

Well if it is you will certainly lead a random and varied existence!!

Good luck with the psychiatry
