Try it. Doesn't seem to take any longer and the mash is brilliant.
Agreed about mashers for potatoes but thanks to someone on HF I now use a ricer which makes lovely mash, light and fluffy rather than the over worked gloop from a beating.

Yep, if you use an electric whisk it becomes like glue, and there is actually a chemical reaction going on that makes this happen. Never used a ricer, though I might check it out.
