Teen sensation Jordin Post, also known as Juventa, is undoubtedly one of the biggest up and coming talents in the EDM scene today. According to Armin van Buuren he'll be one of the worlds top of trance producers before he reaches the legal drinking age in his country.
Having had his first track released at the age of 15, the Dutchman has had huge releases on the likes of Enhanced Recordings, Anjunabeats, and Armada. Having successfully played at the likes of Digital Society and Luminosity, he will be flying in to make his London debut at Trance Sanctuary’s 1st Birthday and we decided it was time to find out more about the boy wonder.
Hi Juventa, at what age was it that you started making music and how did you get into trance?
I really got into trance music around 2003/2004, that's when I first heard a live set from Tiësto. I was amazed by the kind of music he played, it really caught my attention! I started looking up tracklists and other artists about a year after that and that's basically how my passion for trance came about.
Right after that I got my first music production program, mainly because my parents were convinced it would be a great way to let my creativity loose. I played around with it for 2 years, after that I've tried some other software and eventually started using FL Studio to create my music with.
Tell us about your set up at home and how you approach making your music?
My setup is very simple - small monitors and a good computer, that's it. I do want to expand someday and add some hardware to my 'studio', but for now this is sufficient! Many artists have a certain approach on how to start productions, but I don't do that. It can either be a nice beat or groove I start with, or a melody that came to mind . . . anything!
One of your biggest tracks to date was your remix of Will Holland - Start Again. Looking back now what was your inspiration for the track and how did you make it into such a peak time trancer?
I was really excited when I got asked to do the remix for Will's 'Start Again'. Once I heard the original I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it; turn it in a 138 banger, but with a slightly more emotional and 'calm' touch to it. Instead of going for a big lead to focus on, I decided to really keep the vocals in the spotlight. All I added where some bigger pads and chords, and a soft piano line on the background to give it that subtle emotional touch I wanted. I never thought it would become so big and receive so much support from everyone!
What advice can you give to any aspiring producers?
Althought it may get frustrating at some point - stay your own biggest critic. You have to make sure that what you put out, is not just decent, but great instead. Labels receive a lot of tracks that have potential, but simply haven't been worked on enough - Those few days of extra work may make the difference between just another release, or a track that really stands out. And don't worry if you still feel like your track sucks. You should start worrying once everything you produce sounds like THE best track ever made.
Armin Van Buuren has been a big supporter of your work with a lot of your tracks getting played on his A State Of Trance show. As a fellow Dutchman how much of an influence has he been on your career?
Armin has been a great inspiration to me over the past few years. Everything he has achieved - he's basically living the dream we all have. He keeps me motivated, which is really important in this scene. I also really appreciate it that Armin's open to so many new and different things, the fact that he's selected 'Dionysia' for ASOT2011, but also decided to play my track 'Land Of Far Expectation' in London for ASOT550 earlier this month, shows that he doesn't really care what style you produce - as long as he likes it!
2011 was a big year for you as you started to make a name for yourself as a DJ as well. Tell us what the highlights have been so far and why?
I've just had my first few gigs in 2011, so I think there hasn't really been a highlight for me yet. All of them have been great: Luminosity, Digital Society - both completely different parties, but so great to have played at! I love how intimate clubs can be, but also the openness of a festival, the environment being part of it too.
Outside of producing and DJing what is also keeping you busy?
It's funny to see peoples response to it when they find out I really am 17 years old, but I'd rather just not have all the issues that come with not being 18 yet and be part of the community like everyone else!
Not too many of my school mates really know what I'm up to, but I think that's mainly because trance is still quite underground - some of them know exactly what I'm up to, and they respect and support it so much! They love to be as involved as possible and travel with me to gigs, which, unfortunately for them, isn't always possible ;-)
On the 24th March you will be making your London debut at Trance Sanctuary. What have you heard about the party and what are you most looking forward to about playing the gig?
I've heard some great things about TS from other DJs - that it's always packed and the crowd is simply amazing. I've also heard my productions are much appreciated in the club - Can't wait to check that out myself! Plus I've got a great supporting lineup, so I'm sure it will be a night to remember.
For those that haven't seen you play before what can they expect from your set?
I've got some nice surprises like exclusive tracks and new mashups of my own tracks to play, and I'm bringing some of the already known tracks as well of course. I might even try to throw in some classic stuff if possible, but we'll see on the 24th!
What are the rest of your plans for 2012?
Produce a lot, DJ a lot, be a good student, eat my vegetables... Nah seriously, things are going really well at the moment so I just want to keep this workflow going! I've got a lot of upcoming tracks (incl. vocals too) and collaborations, unfortunately I can't share much of it yet. All I can say that it looks like 2012 is going to be a massive year for me!

From: Menthol Taz on 26th Mar 2012 13:02.07 What an excellent party. The music was brilliant all day/night, the crowd some of the friendliest & up for it I've seen in a long time and the dj's absolutely spot on.
From the moment we got there we were made to feel welcome by the door staff & dj/promoter Mark Landragin. The venue is really nice, reasonably priced drinks, water only £2, plenty of toilets. The dancefloor was packed but the aircon held out till the end, thank god! The sound system was superb, crystal clear all night & the dj's didn't abuse it, so I didn't need to use my ear plugs at all.
I highly recommend this party for any trance fan & really can't wait for the next one in May.
Thanks so much to TS crew & dj's for a very memorable & enjoyable time.
